Conger on Executive Development Issues

Trina Soske and Jay Conger had a very interesting blog post in the Harvard Business Review Blog, "Imagining the Future of Leadership," where they describe the problems facing executive development programs. Read their post here.

Soske and Conger describe the major problems in leadership development as being, first, too great a focus on individual learning, instead of recognizing that leadership today is a "team sport." In addition, the authors write that what is typically being developed are attributes or behaviors instead of teaching people to deal with actual issues that they will be called upon to confront in their jobs.
