Jay Galbraith at Business Week: Pro-Matrix
To Matrix or not to matrix? That is the question posed by BusinessWeek.com and answered by two leading organizational design experts. In this week's "Debate Room" feature, CEO-affiliated research scientist Dr. Jay Galbraith and Dr. Guido Quelle discuss their arguments for and against matrix as the best way to restructure a business.
For Jay Galbraith, a complex business environmental spurs complexity in companies, leaving organizations with no choice but to learn how to effectively executive a matrix structure. Does it work? He says yes. Dr. Quelle contends otherwise, arguing that matrix structures slow down today's enterprises. But both experts agree that effective leadership is the key driver to companies' success.
