Conference on Doing Useful Research

Doing Research that is Useful for Theory and Practice has been CEO's focus for the 30 years it has been in existence. Our founding and ongoing belief is that academic research should in fact be useful to practitioners in addressing the critical problems they face. We are convening a "30 years later" conference to be held December 4 - 5, 2009 on this topic and will be editing a new book about it.

The conference will bring practitioners in organizations together with researchers. Invited practitioners will have participated in collaborative research projects. They will bring their perspectives on what makes knowledge useful. Academics at the conference will have conducted collaborative research in which the questions asked and the knowledge generated reflect the knowledge and perspectives of both organizational practitioners and academics.

Building on empirical examples of useful research and successful impact, the purpose of the conference is to identify and document what is required to generate knowledge that is useful and that makes an impact on practice.

Attendance at the conference is by invitation only. To learn more about the conference, please contact Sue Mohrman or Ed Lawler, or call (213) 740-9814.
