Imelda Wicks is the Assistant Vice President of Talent, Culture, and Engagement at The University of Texas at Arlington. She is a global people-centered leader with a demonstrated history of 20+ years of working experience in higher education, human resources, non-profit organizations, and healthcare. Imelda is known as a speaker and panelist in multiple forums across the state, local, and national level. She has served in several leadership roles and multiple boards, associations, and organizations.
In her leadership role, Imelda has helped several organizations reach national, local, and state recognition. She has served as founding leader of offices/departments/divisions of employee engagement & compliance for several institutions. She is credited with launching several employee resource groups across the state of Texas. For example, at The University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) Imelda helped this institution launched its first employee resource group (ERG) and its first official Veterans Day recognition ceremony/luncheon.
While working at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center one of the ERGs of this institution was recognized as Top 10 best ERGs in the nation. At Lamar University, she launched the institution’s first multigenerational employee resource group, and at the University of Texas at Arlington (UTA) Imelda has helped the institution triple its employee resource groups.
Imelda has lectured across the country at regional, local, and national conferences on various topics related to cross-culture and diversity, equity, and inclusion. She received a bachelor’s degree in communication from the University of Texas at Brownsville, a master’s degree in Cross-Cultural Studies from the University of Houston – Clear Lake, and has certifications in cultural intelligence, inclusive leadership, and mediation, and is an affirmative action specialist.
