Paul Martin is the Global Chief Diversity Officer at Sony Pictures Entertainment (SPE) and is widely recognized for his negotiation skills and deep expertise in fostering diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) and building diverse partnerships across the entertainment industry.
Since joining SPE in 2007, Martin has launched and managed several impactful programs leveraging the Company’s talent and corporate brand portfolio in the U.S. and abroad. Among the most noteworthy is Sony Pictures Action, the studio’s multi-pronged racial equity and inclusion strategy that has successfully integrated DEI into every aspect of SPE’s business, including hiring, retention, talent pipelines, supplier diversity, employee inclusion, content, and media and talent partnerships.
Martin is adept at finding and identifying underrepresented creative talent, helping them integrate into SPE’s diverse ecosystem, and in doing so has established a noticeable link between DEI and tangible business outcomes.
As global equity and social justice issues continue to rise, Martin is focused on their impact on diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace, including how these events influence employer transparency and accountability in their policies, processes and hiring practices. Creatively, he helps SPE ensure that its content remains authentic and avoids typical stereotypes and tropes.
Martin has been awarded and recognized multiple times throughout his career and currently sits on several boards including California’s ScholarShare Investment Board, The Geena Davis Institute on Gender in Media, RespectAbility, Hollywood CPR, where he currently serves as Co-chair.
Prior to joining Sony Pictures, Martin held several senior at Warner Bros, LRN, The Legal Knowledge Company, Johnson & Johnson and Merrill Lynch. Martin graduated from Wesleyan University and holds a J.D. from USC Gould School of Law.
